Caravan holidays 'improved our children's childhoods'
A couple from Stoke-on-Trent have spoken of how they feel their caravan holidays have given their children a happier childhood.
Speaking to the Sunderland Echo, Elaine and Graham Bell said that their love of caravanning began 16 years ago when they first embarked on a caravan trip in Elaine's mother's touring motorhome.
Mr Bell, aged 47, said: "It's an escape for the children. Some weekends we've only been ten miles from home but it's good to wake up in the countryside and much better than just playing out in the street - they have a lot more freedom."
The couple now take caravan trips up to 20 times a year, the publication reports.
Mr Bell added that by the time the children reached the age of 20, they wanted to take caravan holidays with their parents again. He urged those with an interest in a motorhome holiday to "give it a go".
Britons planning to do so might first want to invest in caravan insurance cover.
The Caravan Club recently reported that bookings for motorhome vacations are up by 40 per cent compared with the same period in 2008.
