Younger motorhomers boost industry

A new generation of caravan insurance policyholders could be to thank for a boom in the motorhome industry.

The Telegraph reports that younger caravanners are helping some motorhome showrooms across the country see an increase in sales of the vehicles of up to 15 per cent.

Managing director of The Caravan Company Paul Clarke told the publication that the first month of 2009 was the firm's best January since 2003.

"Business has been very good this January, much, much better than last year and it has been our best year for quite some time," he stated.

According to Mr Clarke, the number of people making enquiries about caravanning has also risen.

"We have noticed a lot of much younger families are now buying caravans and they are nearly all first timers who don't have caravans to part exchange," he said, adding that forecasts of a hot summer could be bolstering interest.

Meanwhile, the Camping and Caravaning Club has reported an increase in bookings of 21 per cent, which adds to reports from the Caravan Club that advance bookings for the year were up by 40 per cent in January compared with the same month in 2008.
