Caravan industry workers upset at minister's delays
Business secretary Peter Mandelson has been criticised for his failure to reorganise a meeting to discuss the future of the caravan industry.
Lord Mandelson had been due to meet with people in the caravan industry in east Yorkshire earlier this week after an earlier date was cancelled, but he postponed the event again.
Hull city council leader Carl Minns has criticised the minister for failing to give enough priority to the event, having so far made no commitment to a new date for the meeting, which is also due to involve three local MPs.
Councillor Minns told Hullandeastriding.co.uk that he was "disappointed and concerned" by Lord Mandelson's inability to attend the meeting for the second time.
As the recession hits businesses across the UK, the former European commissioner had been due to discuss what could be done to help ensure the caravan industry remains in a strong position during the downturn.
Some experts have suggested there could be a growth in the number of people taking out caravan insurance this year as holidays in the UK grow in popularity.
With the recession forcing people to cut back and the weak pound making an overseas trip even more expensive, taking out caravan insurance and enjoying a trip to a UK destination is expected to become more popular this summer.
