Local bookings boost motorhome hire firm

Caravan insurance policyholders in East Yorkshire may have decided to stay at home for their summer holiday this year as local people generate sky-high bookings at one motorhome firm.

The Bridlington Free Press reports that Springfield Motorhomes has seen caravan hire rise by 300 per cent this year.

"Most of the people that have booked with us live within a 50-mile radius and to put it into perspective, we have had more advanced bookings in January than we had for a third of last year," commented director Andrew Cockcroft.

He went on to say that he hoped the positive figures would mean a boost for the local economy as more people chose to holiday closer to home.

"It just goes to show that in amongst all the doom and gloom there is hope," Mr Cockcroft suggested, adding that the town could reap the benefits of Britons who decide to stay in the country for their holidays this year.

The Times recently reported that more Britons would be taking a caravan holiday this year than will visit Spain for their summer break - which could mean a boost for the caravan insurance industry.
