Caravans hit by crime increase in Filey

Holiday caravans in the north-east town of Filey have been targeted as part of a spate of burglaries in the area, local police have revealed.

People in the area would benefit from taking out comprehensive caravan insurance after new figures from local police showed a significant rise in dwelling burglaries, which include caravans, and vehicle crime.

However, the Filey and Hunmanby Mercury reports that inspector Leo Suret has moved to calm concerns about rising crime in the area.

Referring specifically to damage caused to caravans at the nearby Seadale Caravan Park, the policeman said: "It's a core of people who are very much on our radar and we are tackling them."

He pointed out that the police had responded quickly to this problem, resulting in the arrest of a group of schoolchildren.

However, the incident highlights the importance for people planning a getaway in their caravan to make sure they have adequate caravan insurance cover.

Earlier this week, the same publication reported that thieves had targeted three caravans at the Primrose Valley holiday park.

A conference taking place in the area meant some of the caravans were occupied with personal effects that were stolen during the raid.
