The rise and rise of motorhome holidays
Scottish motorhome parks may have seen an upsurge in the number of British caravan insurance holders visiting their sites in recent months.
According to the Scottish Family Business Association, families are increasingly opting to stay at home for their vacations as the credit crunch bites.
Enquiries into booking pitches at Cairnsmill Caravan Park at St Andrews have risen considerably, with many motorhomers looking to book at least two months in advance.
John Kirkcaldy, who runs the park, said that the company is already taking summer bookings for July, August and September.
"We usually get bookings about a month in advance, but now they're happening at least two months' in advance. Enquiries have definitely gone up," he explained.
Meanwhile, chairman of the British Holiday and Home Parks Association in Scotland Colin Fraser, owner of Fraser Park Home Estates, has said that while sales of motorhomes are not booming, business at caravan parks is.
"I know that touring parks and caravan holiday home parks are going to do very well this year," he stated.
The Caravan Club recently announced that bookings in advance for this year are up 40 per cent on last year's figures.
