Caravan holidays could be boosted by 2m
Caravan insurance policyholders could help boost the industry by adding an extra two million holidays in Britain this year, if bookings continue at their current rate.
The National Caravan Council (NCC) has said that the figure could be achieved if bookings continue apace and has called upon the government to promote caravanning as a holiday option.
NCC deputy director general Alicia Dunne has said that the vacation choice is often overlooked, despite generating £1.75 billion towards the economy.
"Local councils do not always consider caravans and motorhomes in their tourism planning, eg - by providing adequate parking for them."
Ms Dunne went on to say that investing in parks can create a strong and varied product, with the weak pound also generating an opportunity to attract visitors from overseas.
"We are already seeing strong interest, particularly from Germany and the Netherlands," she added.
The information has been released to coincide with the start of British Tourism Week, which runs from March 23rd to 29th and aims to raise awareness of the country's £86 billion visitor economy.
A similar event is running concurrently in Wales.
