Welsh motorhome holidays boost economy
With today marking the start of Wales Tourism Week, caravan insurance customers could be set to flock to the region to make the most of its "friendly" atmosphere.
The BBC reports that the British Holiday and Home Parks Association says that the mid Wales region is appealing to motorhomers because it provides "such a good package and people here are so friendly".
According to the organisation, each caravan park in the region is worth £700,000 to the local economy, yet the contribution made by the sites can be "overlooked". As a whole, the Welsh sector is worth about £1.5 billion.
Speaking to the broadcaster, holiday park boss Julia Warren-Kyle, who runs a site near Machynlleth, said: "With all the doom and gloom about the economy, people are looking to escape to the countryside from the stress of busy lives for some well earned relaxation time."
She added that a Welsh vacation can prove more relaxing then having to fight the crowds at the airport and cope with rising foreign exchange costs.
This view has been echoed by Peter Joyner, a spokesperson for holiday firm Hoseasons, who recently claimed that Britons are increasingly holidaying at home instead of costly European vacations.
