Councillor disappointed by postponed caravan industry visit
Caravan insurance policyholders in the Hull area of Yorkshire may be disappointed that business secretary Peter Mandelson has delayed his visit to the city to discuss the caravan industry.
The Hull Daily Mail reports that city council leader Carl Minns has expressed concerns that the proposed four-month wait could see the failing local industry suffer even more.
Lord Mandelson was originally invited to Hull in December but has postponed the visit until April 1st.
"Four months could be the difference between success and failure," suggested Mr Minns.
"I find it galling that Lord Mandelson can find a lot of time to deal with the car industry in the West Midlands but not the caravan industry in East Yorkshire."
The council leader went on to say that the caravan industry is a major employer in the region and many people are "fighting a rearguard action" to save it from going under.
"We have not given up hope, but once you lose an industry like this it will be gone forever," he warned.
The publication earlier reported that more than 300 industry workers in the region will be losing their jobs as Atlas Homes collapses, despite the caravan industry seeing a booming trade elsewhere in the country.
