Firm sees strong caravan sales
Interest in caravans and motorhomes sold by British Car Auctions (BCA) is spiralling, the company has said.
Amid reports that 2009 could be the year of the caravan holiday, the auction firm has said that its most recent motorhome sale event at its Measham branch was a record-breaker, generating more than £1 million.
Caravan insurance policyholders may have been among the 500 visitors to the event, which saw 93 per cent of motorhomes sold with an average value of more than £8,700 each.
BCA spokesman Tim Naylor commented: "With relatively limited opportunities to buy caravans and motorhomes at auction, these sales have always been popular, but the step up in interest this year has been exceptional."
Some of the newer caravans at the event sold for more than £30,000, while older offerings aged 12 or 13 years managed to rise above £10,000 in value, the firm states.
Mr Naylor suggested that competitive buyers were helping to drive the vehicle values up.
"This ties in with recent reports that many families are considering staying in the UK and taking short breaks this year. No doubt many see a caravan or motorhome as a good value investment for this year's holiday and for the years ahead," he added.
Findings by the National Caravan Council have shown that up to two million extra motorhome holidays could be taken by Britons this year.
