Miniature caravan restored to former glory
A miniature caravan, which is one of only ten made to sell by London department store Harrods, has been rescued and restored to its former glory.
Caravan insurance customers may be interested to read that the tiny 1984 Compass Commodore camper van - which is a fifth of the size of an original model - has been restored by staff at Newport store Discover Leisure, the South Wales Argus reports.
The vehicle had been sited on the roof of the firm's Cardiff store as a mascot until it closed last year.
According to the publication, staff spent 72 hours transforming the miniature van, which included re-doing its bodywork and fitting a new hitch and electrics.
Store PR officer Jan Akehurst commented that the vehicle is "extremely rare".
"We know at least one of the other ten made has been destroyed, so to us it's priceless," she said.
The caravan was exhibited at the Welsh Caravan Show, where it was warmly received by the public. It will now be shown at other caravan and motorhome events.
In May 1955, a young Prince Charles and Princess Anne were presented with a fully working miniature caravan by the Caravan Club.
