Arsonists gut caravan
A family in West Bromwich may be grateful for caravan insurance after their mobile home was torched by vandals.
The Express and Star reports that arsonists who went on the rampage on the evening of March 24th destroyed a variety of vehicles and part of someone's property.
Local fire crews were called to the area five times during the night to deal with the fires, which saw the gutting of a caravan and five cars, leaving just burnt-out shells.
Part of a house belonging to 75-year-old Hilda Paxon was also destroyed, forcing the grandmother to move.
"I thought that was the end," she told the publication, when she realised what was going on after her cat started making a noise.
"I got up to let him out and was just hit with a massive cloud of smoke, the heat almost knocked me over," she stated.
Ms Paxon was helped from her property by daughter Christine and son-in-law John, who live nearby.
Police in the West Midlands confirmed that they are treating the incidents as arson.
According to the Arson Prevention Bureau, deliberate fires in vehicles rose in number by 56 per cent between 1992 and 2003.
