Caravan owners to benefit from suspended roadworks
Caravan owners can expect to meet fewer roadwork blockages on UK routes this weekend thanks to temporary measures introduced by the Highways Agency.
The organisation will have completed work at 37 sites of road reconstruction by Thursday (April 9th), it has announced. A further 51 roadwork projects will be suspended from then until the following Tuesday (April 14th) to allow for a surge in road users heading away for the Easter long-weekend.
The measures form part of efforts to ease congestion on motorways and major A roads under the Highways Agency's control over the busy holiday period and could potentially help drivers avoid caravan insurance claims by cutting the number of accidents that occur.
Derek Turner, Highways Agency director for network operations, said: "Removing roadworks is just one way we are helping road users this Easter.
"Our website provides live traffic information, allowing people to plan their journeys from home or work before setting off."
Meanwhile, a caravan fire in Merseyside last week (April 3rd) was prevented from wreaking further carnage thanks to the quick actions of a passing milkman, reports the Telegraph.
Danny Brown, 35, put out the blaze with bottles of lemonade from his float before it set two gas canisters alight.
