'More parking needed for mobile homes'
An Isle of Man motorhome owner has called for the government to tackle the problem of unlicensed vehicles to provide greater parking room.
John Sheppard, aged 62, who lives in Onchan, said his motorhome has suffered at the hands of vandals and others who resent the vehicle being parked in their street.
"People just generally don't like the physical presence of motorhomes in their road," he told Isle of Man Today.
"But unlicensed vehicles are a worse problem. If we got rid of all of them the roads would be a lot clearer."
His comments follow the announcement last month by transport minister David Anderson that a review of the laws governing the parking of motorhomes and vans is to be undertaken.
Mr Sheppard uses the caravan to take his disabled brother-in-law on family holidays.
He went on to say that he is always careful when parking the motorhome - potentially keeping caravan insurance claims at bay.
But Mr Sheppard went on to ask where drivers will park their caravans if motorhomes become restricted on the roads.
In 2006, Graham Hadfield developed website motorhomeparking.co.uk to direct mobile home drivers to areas in which they can park legally and safely.
