Mobile home site set to double in size
Caravan insurance policyholders planning a stay in Northumberland may soon have even more pitches available to them as a mobile home site is to double in size.
The Northumberland Gazette reports that the Tindles Hill site near Longhorsley is to benefit from the addition of 21 pitches after the application made by farmer Roger Hindmarsh were approved by the local council.
It is hoped that adding the pitches to the 23-static caravan site will help boost the economy and pay for replacement of farm machinery, which can currently be partially paid for by the Single Farm Payment, due to be abolished in 2012.
Speaking to the area's development management committee last week, Mr Hindmash said: "If this application were not so important to our business I would not be here tonight, I would be at home helping with the lambing.
"The expansion of the Tindles Hill Caravan Park is critically important farm diversification for our small business."
According to the publication, committee member Trevor Thorne said that he thought the idea was a good one and that any objections made were outweighed by the evidence that the venture is necessary and could be beneficial.
The Caravan Club has previously suggested that this year could see caravan holiday bookings increase by 40 per cent.
