Caravan to host celebration of island's past

Caravan insurance policyholders looking for a break with a difference might want to travel up to North Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland next weekend.

The island is set to host a celebration of its past, with the focal point being a disused caravan that has been converted into a mini film theatre, the Stornoway Gazette reports.

Fishing port Lochmaddy will host the weekend of events, organised by museum and arts centre Taigh Chearsabhagh, which is set to begin on May 1st with 'Ceilidh in the Caravan'.

During this event, the Mobile Picture Salon will showcase footage from the island's past, while visitors will also be able to sample some of the island's traditional food from the mobile home.

Taigh Chearsabhagh cultural access officer Sarah MacIntyre told the publication that she is fond of the mobile home.

"I have a real affection for the caravan, I think it's an island thing," she said, adding that she expects the weekend to be really good.

The Look Left Look Right Theatre held a play in a caravan earlier this year, erecting the motorhome in London's Sloane Square and inviting visitors inside to watch a production about the devastating floods of summer 2007.
