Used mobile home sales strong
Despite a downturn in sales of new mobile homes, the used market for caravans is still strong, an expert has claimed.
With the current recession causing Britons to tighten their belts, many potential caravan insurance customers may be put off spending a large amount on a new mobile home.
"Motorhomes are obviously big ticket items and the reduction in motorhome sales is similar to the reduction in sales for cars," commented spokeswoman for the National Caravan Council (NCC) Louise Wood.
"But, having said that, second hand sales are going well," she stated.
New mobile home registrations were down 37 per cent by the end of February, NCC figures show.
Ms Wood added that because consumers are shying away from purchasing new models, there are fewer trade-ins, creating quite a large second hand market.
This may be good news for Britons looking to invest in a mobile home and caravan insurance for holidays in the next few years.
Following the Budget speech, the NCC said that it would liked to have seen the addition of incentives to get more consumers to holiday in the UK, such as vehicle excise duty reductions, as taking a break at home can be more environmentally-friendly than flying abroad.
