Caravan holidays see boost in Cumbria
Cumbria's caravan holiday industry has been boosted this year, with advance bookings up on last year's figures.
The Lakeland Echo reports that advance bookings have risen by 27 per cent compared with last year's figures, rising to 50 per cent over the Easter period.
Park Cliffe Camping and Caravanning Estate is among the businesses seeing a boom in bookings, with caravan insurance policyholders potentially among those flocking to the region.
The park is currently bidding to be named Caravan Holiday Park of the Year in the Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2009.
According to park owner Susan Dickson, the site has seen an impressive start to the year with bookings up on those made in 2008.
Numbers could rise even further during National Camping and Caravanning Week, which takes place later this month.
"It provides the perfect opportunity for both camping novices and enthusiasts to enjoy our award-winning facilities and will help to spread the word about how affordable and enjoyable camping is," Ms Dickson said of the week-long event.
National Camping and Caravanning Week will this year have an activity-led theme, with participants encouraged to take part in pursuits that will help keep them healthy.
