Duckling finds home with unflappable caravan owners
A caravan park in Northumberland has become home to a new resident of the feathered variety.
Residents of Percy Wood Caravan Park recently discovered a young duckling, which was unable to climb an embankment around a pond after being abandoned by its mother, the Journal Live reports.
The residents took the tiny duck to Madeline and Paul Kelly, who have lived at the site for the majority of the year for the past five years.
Paul, aged 53, had seen the duckling hatch near the pond, while Madeline, 64, had noticed that it was not the same colour as its siblings, guessing that the egg had rolled from another nest during a fox attack earlier.
The couple took the duckling into their home and will care for it until it can be released into the wild. In the meantime, their African grey talking parrot Molly keeps it company and has learnt to squawk "Daffy", which the duckling has been named.
Daffy takes regular walks in the park and is allowed to swim in the bathtub, as well as in the nearby pond, but the couple might want to ensure their caravan insurance policy covers pets.
"People have stopped us in the park and said this is unbelievable what is happening," commented Mr Kelly.
"He has taken to home life quite well."
Earlier this year, a cockerel nicknamed Romeo was discovered trying to get into a mobile home at a Somerset caravan park after losing his way while looking for a mate.
