Rare bird spotted at caravan park

Caravan insurance policyholders at a Northumberland mobile home park were in for a treat recently when a rare bird was spotted at the site.

Visitors to Haven Holidays' Haggerston Castle Holiday Park, near Berwick, noticed the white stork flying from roof to roof, the BBC reports.

Thought to have been blown off course by the wind, the birds are not native to the UK and usually make their homes in Spain and North Africa during winter, breeding in mainland Europe.

The park's general manager Gordon Walker commented that the bird seemed to be looking for something.

"It decided to have a rest on the roof of one of our caravans in the showground," he added.

The stork is traditionally associated with the delivery of babies.

One visitor to the site, expectant mother Emma Roberston from Aberdeen, said: "I'm six months pregnant so I hope the stork doesn't deliver my baby just yet."

Meanwhile, the Journal Live recently reported that a duckling had been taken in by a couple at another Northumberland caravan site after being found abandoned and struggling to get about.
