Yorkshire's caravan industry seeing recovery

Rising sales of caravans in East Yorkshire have prompted reports that the region's caravan industry is getting back on its feet.

Following dealership closures and numerous redundancies in the industry as a result of the economic downturn, the Hull Daily Mail reports that bookings at local sites have increased in the area and sales of the vehicles are buoyant.

The publication states that bookings are up as reported by the National Caravan Council, while manufacturers in the area have seen a rise in production as sales of models soar ahead of the summer season.

Jim Hibbs, managing director of east Hull firm Coachman Caravans, told the paper that he is excited about the future, with mobile homes in the £3,000 to £6,000 band becoming "manic".

"Dealers can't get enough of them - which is fuelling sales of new vans," he added.

Meanwhile, marketing director of Cottingham-based Swift Caravans Richard White said that sales of touring models had risen 15 per cent in recent months.

The impressive figures could also mean a rise in the number of Britons investing in caravan insurance policies as they prepare to embark on summer journeys.

In related news, Glass's Guide recently stated that demand for models has been stronger than predicted, leading to a short supply of mobile homes among dealers.
