Spending by caravan owners set to soar?

Caravan owners could help boost the UK's tourism takings if increased bookings lead to more spending.

Figures outlined recently by the National Caravan Council (NCC) have highlighted additional bookings at caravan parks in recent months of up to 25 per cent in some areas of north England.

Additionally, sales of new touring models have been seen to rise.

"We are also hearing that spend is up in parks," stated NCC director general John Lally.

This will be good news for business that rely on trade from holidaymakers, he added, which can include shops, pubs and attractions, as well petrol stations and post offices.

Meanwhile, owner of Windmill Hill Caravan Park in Pembroke Richard Gibby told WalesOnline that he forecasts spending by holidaymakers to rise across the region.

"Business is looking good and we have been fully booked for August since February," he said, adding that the park has had to turn many visitors away because of a lack of space.

According to the NCC, caravanning is worth an estimated £6 billion to the UK economy, made up of £2 billion in holiday spending and £4 billion in sales of new and used products and accessories.
