Businessman offers caravan scrappage scheme

A Yorkshire businessman could offer caravan insurance policyholders just the incentive they need to invest in a new model.

John Morphet, who owns a number of caravan sites, has said he will match the government's scrappage incentive by offering consumers £2,000 towards a new model when they scrap their old one.

The Yorkshire Post reports that under the scheme, the caravan can be bought from any manufacturer, but will need to based at one of Mr Morphet's parks, which include Bridlington Links in Yorkshire.

Caravans aged ten years or older will be eligible for the initiative, with the region's flailing industry potentially set to receive a boost from the scheme.

Mr Morphet commented: "There couldn't be a better time to kick-start the industry than now, when people are looking for value for money and to holiday in the UK. This, and the hot summer we've been promised, could be just the ticket."

The Hull Daily Mail recently reported that the local caravan industry could be recovering as bookings at parks surge. The positive signs will be good news after job losses across the Yorkshire industry rose to more than 1,500 over the past six months.
