Old caravans pose health risks?
28 May, 2009
The creator of a caravan scrappage scheme may have provided just the incentive mobile home owners need to invest in a new model.
Entrepreneur John Morphet, who recently launched a caravan scrapping scheme, has said that he thinks old models can sometimes pose a health risk to their owners.
The Northampton Chronicle and Echo reports that Mr Morphet has said that newer models can be safer and greener than their older counterparts - which may be good news for consumers looking to invest in a new offering and keep their caravan insurance premiums intact.
According to the entrepreneur, the mobile homes could be poorly insulated and have inefficient heating systems that may not meet Health and Safety Executive criteria.
"I look at caravans with bad insulation and gas leaks, with the appliances out of date, and I think they are a health hazard," he stated.
Under the scheme, the businessman is offering Britons £2,000 towards the cost of their new model, provided they select it from one of his own parks across the country.
Mr Morphet is chairman of Pure Leisure, which has sites in Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, the Lake District, Yorkshire and Lancashire.
