The importance of fitting mobile homes with tracking devices has been highlighted by the recovery of a caravan in Aberdeen.

According to the East Lothian Courier, the £12,000 caravan was stolen from East Fortune Farm last Monday, either in the evening or during the early hours of the following morning.

Despite the vehicle being in storage and secured with a tow lock and wheel clamp, offenders managed to take the caravan from its surroundings.

Because the vehicle was fitted with a tracking device, however, Grampian Police were alerted to the theft and able to look out for the mobile home, which was located near an Aberdeen industrial estate.

The model's owner could be grateful they may now not have to make a caravan insurance claim as a result of having the tracking device on board.

"We are following a positive line of enquiry regarding this theft," a police spokesman told the publication.

Motorists who fit their vehicles with tracking devices can sometimes receive a discount on their cover from their insurance provider.

According to stolen vehicle recovery firm Tracker, its products helped police to recover assets to the value of over £400 million by the end of last year.
