Drivers planning to tow their mobile home away for a break this summer might want to ensure they are aware of alcohol unit numbers.
A study by breathalyser manufacturer AlcoSense has revealed that many Britons cannot correctly identify the number of units in a pint of lager or 250ml glass of wine, with around 96 per cent giving the wrong answer.
The majority of people believed the drinks to contain two units of alcohol, when in fact they have 3.4 units each.
Drivers could find that towing their mobile home after a night of moderate drinking puts more than their caravan insurance premiums at risk as a result.
"This is worrying for the evening, but even more worrying for the morning after as people are vastly underestimating just how much alcohol they have consumed," commented chief executive officer at AlcoSense Hunter Abbott.
Meanwhile, Sir Stirling Moss, who supports the firm, suggested that drivers keep their own breathalysers handy to check they are not over the limit before getting behind the wheel this summer.
The results of the survey coincide with a recently-launched campaign by the UK's police forces and government to crack down on drink driving.
