The importance of caravan insurance was made painfully clear to some owners this weekend after the adverse weather conditions caused a fire at one caravan site.
Norden Farm caravan park near Corfe Castle in Devon suffered a major fire when lightning struck an electrical pole at the site and caused a number of caravans to catch fire shortly after midnight on Saturday night.
The incident required 40 firefighters to attend the blaze and several of the caravans were destroyed by the fire, which spread quickly in windy conditions and caught trees and some buildings.
Owners of the destroyed caravans will hopefully be able to claim on their caravan insurance, provided they are adequately covered for such an incident.
Many people were caught out at the weekend by the heavy rain and adverse weather conditions, following a number of weeks of warm, sunny weather.
Nonetheless, caravan holidays are set to become increasingly popular this summer, it has been claimed.
The Daily Mirror reports that bookings at caravan and camp site provider Haven Holidays have risen significantly this year, with a long hot summer predicted, as well as the recession forcing people to watch their budget more carefully.
Last week, the National Caravan Council launched a new code of practice for sellers of caravans to provide buyers with greater transparency and protection when purchasing a new motorhome.
