Caravan enthusiasts are more likely than the public in general to have a heightened green awareness, a study has shown.

According to a recent survey by the Caravan Club, mobile home users were shown to be twice as likely to have an environmentally-friendly lifestyle than other members of the public.

Some 98 per cent of members were found to be taking positive steps towards protecting the environment.

Meanwhile, 94 per cent of members said that they felt spending time close to nature is important, while almost 90 per cent of respondents said they feel there should be greater space devoted to cultivating nature and wildlife around the club's caravan sites.

Fiona Bewers, corporate PR manager at the Caravan Club, commented: "With caravanning itself being a green, sustainable way to holiday, members' attitude to environmental issues underpins initiatives already underway within the club."

Her comments follow the announcement by National Caravan Council director general John Lally that caravanners have a greater green awareness than the public at large.

Mr Lally recently stated that mobile home enthusiasts choose green activities such as cycling when they reach their holiday destination and are also more likely to use energy-efficient products.
