Caravan owners are being urged to get a free fire and safety check at their property by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, after a spate of serious fires regionally.
Firefighter Mark Proctor, from Birchwood Station, Warrington advised caravan owners that the fires destroyed the motorhomes in both of the two fires his brigade had seen in the past two months, reports the Chester Standard.
The fires took place at the Bank Park, Rixton and have prompted fire fighters to remind caravan owners that they are entitled to a free Home Safety Assessment.
Assessments determine whether caravan owners and those with caravan insurance have the right smoke alarms fitted in their mobile homes and look out for potential fire hazards.
Mr Proctor told the newspaper: "Incidents involving caravans are typically characterised by rapid fire spread and there is often a real risk of explosions due to the presence of gas cylinders.
"While we accept the value of smoke detectors in the home, too many of us fail to appreciate their worth in our caravans and boats. Owners are urged to contact their local fire station."
He stressed the assessment service is free of charge and for those who require smoke alarms the devices will be provided and fitted.
According to advice website Caravanning Online, owners of mobile homes should ensure their gas appliances were installed in accordance with the safety requirements of British Standards.
