Hemel Hempstead couple have got their sun screen, road maps and caravan insurance and are hitting the road on a trip of a lifetime.

Jon and Sue Gross, both now retired, have decided to swap life at home for a caravanning adventure, travelling from Canada to Argentine, the Hemel Today reports.

Former lawyer Mrs Gross said: "We're excited mainly, but a little bit apprehensive - mostly about leaving all our children and all our friends."

They will fit out their caravan with beddings, furniture and kitchenware before setting off on their road trip.

Cities they plan to stop in include Seattle, Portland and San Francisco, while Death Valley and Nevada are also on their hit list.

Mr Goss said: "The plan is to sell the motor home and fly back, although we could ship it to South Africa and travel up from there."

Earlier this month, fellow caravan enthusiast Joseph Creelman got the shock of his life when he won a mobile home after entering a Daily Express competition.

The 79-year-old can't wait to get caravan insurance and use his new vehicle, but did have one question.

The newspaper reports he said: "What is the national speed limit for a car on a UK motorway?"
