The importance of investing in caravan insurance to guard against financial loss as a result of crime has potentially been highlighted by recent events at a mobile home site.

Sandhaven park in South Shields was recently the victim of an attack by criminals who broke into a caravan to steal electrical goods, the Shields Gazette reports.

Caravanners who have caravan insurance may be able to offset some of the damage thanks to their cover policy.

Police in the area are now calling upon mobile home owners to ensure they take steps to enhance the security of their caravans - potentially helping them to avoid a caravan insurance claim.

Neighbourhood inspector Peter Sutton from South Shields Police commented: "Whenever a caravan or holiday home is not being used, nothing should be left inside and the property should be made secure."

Mobile home owners should always ensure that they lock doors and windows when leaving the caravan, while investing in cover can help provide peace of mind should the worst case scenario occur and the home be broken into.

Meanwhile, the Market Rasen Mail reported last month that a static caravan in Caistor, Lincolnshire, was broken into and a television stolen.
