As consumers increasingly join caravan insurance policyholders and opt for UK holidays to beat the credit crunch, Yorkshire's mobile home industry is booming.

Reports by the Hull Daily Mail state that while the East Yorkshire region's caravan industry was one of the victims of the recession to begin with, the upturn in people opting to holiday at home has helped create jobs and improve business in the area.

Speaking to the publication, head of economic development at East Riding council Paul Bell said that 250 jobs in the sector have been created in the region over the past three months.

Firms such as touring mobile home manufacturer Coachman Caravans have seen their business increase and stock levels diminish.

"The sales of used caravans in dealerships has been manic since Christmas, because of the shift to British holidays," commented managing director of the company Jim Hibbs.

Coachman Caravans has seen business increase by 20 per cent since the beginning of the year, with sales of new caravans also strong and some dealerships running short of stock.

"We are now looking forward to 2010 with much more confidence," Mr Hibbs added.

Meanwhile, website nebusiness.co.uk recently reported that the rise in mobile home holidays was also bringing a boost to business at Barmoor Castle Country Park in Northumberland.
