A new caravan site has been approved in Hawick, giving holidaymakers a greater choice in venues for their summer break.
The major new site will be located at Wilton Lodge Park where the Scottish Borders Council has granted the Camping and Caravanning Club a 100 year lease on the land, caravan insurance customers may be pleased to hear.
A Camping and Caravanning Club spokesperson told the Harwick News: "Discussions about the proposed site are ongoing and are very positive.
"We are obviously monitoring the situation very closely at present and look forward to more progress over the coming months."
It is hope that work can begin on the land, which is home to Hawick Harlequins RFC, as soon as February, with a view for completion in May 2010.
The site will feature a 90-pitch touring facility, operating around the year, with a reception serving caravan insurance customers on arrival.
Councillor Stuart Marshall said that he was "delighted" with the speed the plans were moving at and noted that it was "vital" to retain this speed.
"As always with applications of this kind there are bound to be issues that arise, but hopefully these can all be resolved through the planning process," he added.
Meanwhile, earlier this month it was revealed by the Caravan Club that going on this kind of holiday is becoming more fashionable.
Head of public relations at the firm Nikki Nichol said that new facilities and advanced caravan sites means the reality of this sort of break has been modernised.
