The number of caravan insurance policyholders travelling to Strathspey in the Scottish Highlands could be on the increase.
According to the Strathspey and Badenoch Herald, a number of factors such as the weak pound, warm British weather and start of the school summer holidays have all contributed to a rise in tourism in the area.
Speaking to the publication, co-owner of Grantown Caravan Park Sandra McKelvie said she had noticed a rise in the number of first-time caravanners travelling to the site.
"It has been a busy season so far, and we are very pleased with the numbers," she said.
"It seems people don't want to go abroad, and are generally being more careful with their money."
Bidding to boost the caravanning sector in the region, the Cairngorms Chamber of Commerce and company Aviemore and Cairngorms Destination Management have teamed up to launch a website showing availability of pitches.
"In general, visitor numbers are up on last year, both for the start of the main school holidays and the year to date," commented the firm's chief executive Alan Rankin.
Meanwhile, West Ayton Caravan Park in Scarborough saw a rise in visitor numbers of 80 per cent last month compared with the same month in 2008, the BBC reports.
