Police in County Londonderry in Northern Ireland have instigated an emergency evacuation procedure from a number of houses because of fears a fire could trigger a gas explosion in the area.

4NI reports that the fire started in a shed in Deerpark Road, Bellaghy, close to a number of gas containers. A team of fire fighters arrived to combat the blaze and sealed off the road as a precaution.

The road is to remain closed for at least the next 24 hours, while drivers in the area have been warned they may experience delays if unable to find alternative routes.
