Britons planning to tow a caravan for the first time in a while this summer are being advised to ensure their knowledge is up-to-date.

The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has issued advice to motorists planning to take a mobile home on the road this season to make sure they have read up on the rules relating to towing vehicles.

Britons who are unsure of the rules are advised to check the DSA's website to learn more - and potentially avoid a caravan insurance claim.

Additionally, the agency suggests that consumers looking to brush up their towing skills could find a nearby caravan or motorhome training course before setting off on their journeys to help hone their skills.

According to the DSA, motorists planning a long drive should ensure their vehicles have plenty of fuel and turn off their mobile phones while behind the wheel to ensure a safer journey.

Chief driving examiner Trevor Wedge commented: "We all want to enjoy the summer holidays from the moment we leave the house."

Caravanners taking to the roads today will be able to receive advice on towing from Highways Agency traffic officers at service stations across the country, who will be handing out the organisation's latest publication on road safety, Hitched.
