Caravan insurance customers may be interested to learn that an airfield could be used as a caravan park for the 2012 Olympics.

The North Weald airfield is under consideration by the local council to provide a site for motorhomes and tents. Other options for the site are a park and ride system or air passenger operations, the Guardian reports.

Many hotels in the area are already fully booked for the 2012 games, meaning that the caravan site could provide much-needed space for spectators and visitors.

According to the newspaper, the infrastructure for such a move already exists, the airfield having played host to overnight visitors in the past.

Utilising the airfield in this way could give a boost to the local economy by bringing in extra revenue, concluded a report submitted to the council on the issue.

The next Olympics will take place in London from July 27th to August 12th, 2012.

Organisers of the event, the Olympic Delivery Authority, recently stated that its 'big build' sporting venue structures would be completed by the middle of next year.
