Caravan owners in the South Yorkshire town of Doncaster are being urged to take the necessary steps to make their mobile homes secure.

Owners in the region might want to ensure their caravan insurance policies are up to date to guard against potential theft of the trailers following a number of incidents around the town.

The Thorne and District Gazette reports that a number of caravans have been stolen from driveways in the area during the past week.

It comments that the increase in thefts may be attributable to Britons taking the mobile homes out of storage and preparing to take them on a summer holiday.

A spokesman from South Yorkshire Police told the publication that opportunist thieves will notice the appearance of mobile homes.

"Owners of caravans should make sure they have adequate security for them to make it difficult for them to be stolen."

"Don't let criminals ruin your holiday, keep your property safe."

Recently, the Star reported that six caravans in the area had been stolen in the space of a week.
