A recent fire at a caravan park was started by a bonfire on the site, the fire service has now confirmed.
The incident at Thorney Bay Caravan Park may raise the profile of caravan site safety issues, although the work of the fire service meant that no mobile homes were affected during the blaze.
However, the Echo reports that the fire did spread throughout the site to an area where units storing gas cylinders were located, posing a more serious threat.
Incident commander Doug Sylvester told the newspaper: "Crews worked excellently in bringing the fire under control and preventing it from spreading."
Thorney Bay park owner Jeff King contested the fire service's claim that there had been a bonfire on site and said that it was a small contained fire, which he would not have classed in this category.
Earlier this year, customers of caravan insurance were offered tips by firefighters about avoiding hazards on their holidays this summer.
Isle of Man fire station officer Carl Kinvig told the Isle of Man Today that while having a barbeque may seem like a nice idea, holidaymakers should ensure they do not do so close to their caravans.
"Whether it's in a motor home, a tent or just out for some safety tips you should adhere to. Enjoy this summer but please take care with fire," he said.
