Teenagers and young adults are increasingly opting to take traditional family holidays with their parents as a result of the credit crunch, a study has shown.
According to recent findings by website suncshine.co.uk, more than a quarter of Britons aged between 18 and 30 think that the best option for a break this year will be to go on holiday with their family.
UK consumers are increasingly joining the hordes of caravan insurance policyholders taking staycations to beat the economic downturn, which may be a positive change for British society.
But of the parents questioned, more than half said they would rather take a break with their partner or alone than shack up with their offspring for a vacation.
Lucy Ace, managing director at holiday firm Take the Family, commented that Britons can benefit from traditional family holidays.
"One of the reasons we holiday is to take time out of our busy lives and who better to spend time with than the people closest to you?" she stated.
The travel expert went on to say that "the holidays that you have with your children are incredibly precious as they often become lifetime memories".
Reports have abounded this summer of caravan sites seeing a bumper season as Brits defy the credit crunch by taking holidays at home.
Consumers are increasingly looking to save during the economic downturn but do not want to give up the luxury of an annual break.
"We get lots of families with teenagers looking for new adventures desperate to find something that will keep everybody's interest and ensure the teenagers continue to take part in the family holiday," commented Ms Ace.
Of the young Britons polled, almost 70 per cent had not been on holiday with their family for at least four years, with 76 per cent preferring to take breaks with their friends or partners.
Caravanning can prove an inexpensive way to take a break while experiencing what the UK has to offer.
Taking a vacation at home can also be the best way to holiday for eco-conscious consumers, as the National Caravan Council commented earlier this year that taking a break in a mobile home can save thousands of tonnes of CO2.
Director general of the NCC John Lally said it was clear that British holidaying habits are changing as consumers become more attracted to caravanning and take breaks closer to home.
