A couple's summer has ended on a high after they won a holiday of a lifetime.

Mary Collins and her husband Hugh entered a magazine competition without believing they stood a chance of winning, reports the Daily Mirror.

However, the happy holidaymakers from Weymouth, Dorset are now preparing to head off for a free week - in a caravan park across the road from where they live.

Mary, 74, and Hugh, 78 had not known how close the destination of the prize was when they entered - but were not disappointed to find out.

Hugh told the newspaper: "The change will be as good as a rest."

The couple will stay in a luxurious six-berth caravan and say it is their first holiday in 25 years.

Earlier this month, holidaymakers were advised of what great value caravan breaks provide during the credit crunch by family man Ben Bentley.

The dad told his local newspaper, the Shropshire Star, that he is taking a caravan break this summer because of the economy in cost and ease.

Mr Bentley explained: "This year, like many people, our family has had to tighten its collective belt, and the only way to have a break is to have a staycation.

"That is, have a holiday at home, around Shropshire and Mid Wales, possibly with a day on the beach with a bucket and spade, just to tick the holiday must-do box marked: 'Bury dad up to his neck in sand.'"
