The number of Britons investing in caravan insurance policies may be increasing alongside the rising number of people taking holiday home breaks.

Recent figures posted by Haven Holidays highlight an increase in sales of static caravans of 38 per cent over the summer months as Brits opt to take more breaks at home.

The firm suggests that the demographic is also changing, with consumers who would previously have headed abroad now looking around sites for a caravan.

"A lot more people are holidaying in Britain now and that's making a huge difference," commented senior product manager at Haven Naomi Woodstock.

"More and more people are coming to the parks and typically it is those who have had a holiday with us and enjoyed it that buy the caravans."

Among the most popular areas were Cornwall and Wales, where sales of static caravans more than doubled.

The firm also posted a 15 per cent increase in visitors to its caravan parks during this year's summer holiday period, compared with last year's figures.

Industry trend analyst Mintel had suggested that caravanning and camping were set to rise as a result of the recession, the Western Morning News recently reported.
