A new comedy focusing on the ups and downs of caravan holidays is to air shortly in Scotland.

As mobile homes see a roaring trade, the timing is apt for the sitcom to emerge, entitled Happy Hollidays.

The programme centres around camp manager Colin Holliday, played by Ford Kieman, who is passionate about the mobile homes but cannot abide people.

Kieman told the Evening Times about his own experiences in mobile homes as a boy.

"I used to go to a caravan in Inverbeg when I was a wean, with my mother and sister, but the problem is I've always been a wee bit claustrophobic," he commented.

"So understanding why anyone would want to spend a week in a tin box is way beyond me."

He added that caravans can be very appealing to some people, highlighted by the current boom in mobile home sales as Britons look to stave off the effects of the credit crunch.

The sitcom will be aired by BBC1 Scotland on September 4th.

Earlier this year, caravan insurance policyholders may have seen BBC Four's mobile home documentary Caravans: A British Love Affair, which looked in depth at the mobile home industry in the UK over the years.
