Caravan insurance policyholders travelling to sites in Yeovil and south Somerset might want to avoid using non-eco safe toilet cleaners for their portable loos.
Company Wessex Water is calling upon caravanners to ditch their chemical toilet cleaners as they kill bacteria that are necessary for the sewage treatment process, ThisistheWestCountry.co.uk reports.
Wessex Water's Pete Coombs commented that many of the region's small treatment plants receive waste from camping and caravan parks in the area.
"On occasions our assets' performance is affected by chemical toilet sanitary products, which require significantly more energy and cost to break down," he stated.
Mr Coombs went on to urge mobile home users to switch to products that are less environmentally-damaging.
The National Centre for Environmental Toxicology has previously discovered that products like Exodor Bio-Pak - which contains a formula to break down tissue in 24 hours - and the 100 per cent biodegradable BioMagic, both of which are marketed as environmentally-kind, are less damaging to the treatment process.
"I strongly recommend caravan owners and individuals who run campsites to switch to using these safe, clean and environmentally-friendly products to help protect the environment this bank holiday," Mr Coombs added.
