The forthcoming bank holiday weekend is set to see caravan insurance policyholders flock to British attractions in their drove, rather than heading overseas.
Figures from petrol stations and breakdown firm Total have shown that 95 per cent of Britons will spend their bank holiday on home soil, with more than four million people opting to use the time for a romantic getaway with their partner.
The majority of respondents said they would be travelling by road over the next few days, with many citing non-moving traffic as a common grievance they expect to encounter.
Of those questioned the top must-have for females embarking on a motoring holiday was found to be breakdown cover, while males cited their significant other.
Respondents also commented that they are likely to forget items on their break, with over a third saying they will probably leave their mobile phone chargers at home by mistake.
Gemma Shepherdson, brand manager of Total, said: "The research suggests that even more Brits will be taking to the UK roads this bank holiday than ever before.
"Leaving behind a holiday must-have can easily make or break your bank holiday getaway."
She added that motorists who forget their breakdown cover can get the service for free when they buy at least 30 litres of fuel from a Total filling station.
According to UKNetGuide.co.uk, 80 per cent of vehicle breakdowns are avoidable.
