Caravan insurance policyholders might want to take extra care when motoring through West Midlands, West Mercia, Staffordshire and Warwickshire this weekend following the announcement of a police clampdown.
Officers from the Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) will be out in force over the bank holiday weekend period cracking down on dangerous caravans, the Express and Star reports.
Operation Velopy is already underway and recently saw a number of motorists pulled over by police and mobile home experts to carry out examinations and identify faults.
Motorists are also given advice during the drive on how best to tow their caravans and trailers safely.
Sergeant Dean Caswell from the CMPG told the publication: "The bank holiday weekend provides us with the perfect opportunity to meet drivers, share our knowledge and help keep motorway users safe."
Police are being joined by representatives from the Highways Agency and the Caravan Club during the clampdown.
The Highways Agency recently launched a DVD to help motorists stay safe while towing a mobile home, potentially also helping them avoid caravan insurance claims.
Entitled Fit to Tow, the DVD is presented by Carol Smillie and attempts to raise awareness of road risks.
