Britons are flocking to Bognor Regis to enjoy a recession-busting seaside break, it has been reported.

According to the Bognor Regis Observer, the town is a flagship example of how the demand for UK staycations is growing.

Daniel Humphreys, a spokesperson for Tourism South East, told the local paper the fact holiday company Butlins is investing in the area is evidence of its continued popularity amongst holidaymakers.

"All of the market intelligence indicators we have been seeing over the last two years have shown that interest in holiday opportunities in the south east of England is growing," he added.

Mr Humphreys noted caravan sectors - both static and mobile - are showing particularly high levels of growth.

His comments follow news a local caravan site may be extended by as much as 50 per cent.

The owner of the Shripney Garden Caravan Park hopes to add 12 new mobile homes to the 25 caravans already on offer, claims the paper.

According to local tourism information website Sussexbythesea.com, the resort offers visitors high sunshine figures, long beaches and promenades and a bustling, friendly town centre.
