Caravan insurance policyholders in the Lake District will now be able to take a festive break with the news that a local mobile home site will be open to visitors at Christmas.
Owner of Silecroft Caravan Park Andrew Vaughan applied to the region's planners for opening season times to be changed so that the park can be open from between March 1st to January 2nd.
Previously, the site had been restricted to closing on November 15th.
Concerns have been raised that the extended opening season could have ill effects on the community, causing a rise in noise and traffic around the park.
At a recent meeting, one objector claimed the opening season was long enough and would benefit the community.
But Liz Vaughan, whose sons also own the park, responded by saying: "In fact there would be less on site, but they would mean more trade to local businesses in Silecroft and Millom."
Local caravan insurance policyholders may find they have greater choice of places to stay for a festive break now the application has been approved.
In August, figures from the Office of National Statistics showed that the number of Britons taking foreign holidays decreased by around 17 per cent in June.
