A police operation in Wales may have helped motorhomers avoid claims on their caravan insurance policies this summer.
The high visibility initiative entitled Operation Few was conducted by police in the Towyn/Kinmel Bay areas in a bid to detect crime across the season.
NewsWales.co.uk reports that the operation was a success, identifying an increased number of offences being committed. Last year, the initiative saw crime in the areas cut by a third.
The project was launched on August 1st to tackle traditional rises in crime that take place at the start of the summer season.
Howard Farrell, chairman of the area's Caravan Watch group, told the website that the results were pleasing.
"We have been extremely impressed with the policing response, which has had a significant impact this summer. We would wish to see the operation continue and be extended over future years," he stated.
According to the National Caravan Council, thefts of touring mobile homes are on the decline.
Earlier this year the group reported that the number of mobile homes stolen in the UK fell to around 1,400 in 2008, compared with an earlier peak of between 4,000 and 5,000 thefts every year.
