A US man has created what could be the world's smallest caravan using everyday household materials, it has been reported.
Paul Elkins of Stanwoor, Washington built his 'bicycle camper', weighing in at just 45kg from plastic, an old card table and sheets of aluminium, claims Australian news site news.com.au.
According to the news source, he was inspired to make the caravan when preparing for a trip to Nevada's Burning Man festival where he "lived like a nomad for a week".
"The idea hatched from that particular year's theme - fear of the future," Mr Elkins told the website, "My thoughts at the time were fixated on the bird flu."
"This was an attempt to show how one might survive a post-apocalyptic life," he added.
Despite being only just big enough to house one person, the van is deceptively Tardis-like, with room for a fan, gas stove, ice box, laundry hamper and even a solar-powered shower.
Meanwhile, British caravan insurance policyholders may be interested in advice from a recent report by the Guardian, which recommended holidaymakers plan for journeys to avoid last-minute disappointment.
